An Emergency Meeting in May 2024
After months of preparations, the day finally arrived. An Emergency Meeting was held to perform a Raising Ceremony for one of our junior members. A Raising is always a special occasion as it is a true and ‘final’ induction into the craft of freemasonry. For this particular junior member, this event was made even more special with his father in attendance.
Lodge of Honour usually closes for the season with our final meeting in March, however, we made an extra effort with this Raising, so that this member’s father could attend from abroad. This involved obtaining dispensation for an extra emergency meeting in May.
All members worked hard to ensure that the ceremony would run smoothly. Everyone performed each of their roles perfectly. As a relatively small lodge, we were heartened and very grateful to receive
help from Near and…
For the ceremony, the Worshipful Master of Royal Cumberland Lodge No. 41, one of our sister lodges in the Bath Masonic Hall stepped in as the Inner Guard for the evening.
…far, as far as Wiltshire and…
We were also so ably and effectively assisted by our friends from Wiltshire, the Worshipful Master and Brethren of the Chaloner Lodge No. 2644 who usually meet at the Masonic Hall in Melksham. Their professionalism and commitment to the craft was such that at the drop of a hat, they were able to step into the roles of Senior Warden and Junior Deacon. Thank you so much to our guests and visitors for stepping in and helping us out.
… a Very Important Guest
Last but not least a Very Important Guest all the way from Zimbabwe, made it to Bath for his son’s raising. A member of the Acacia Lodge in Harare, Zimbabwe he was also responsible for first introducing his son to Freemasonry played an active role in the raising ceremony.
Following the explanation of the Traditional history and Working tools, the father of our new Master Mason recited the Charge after Raising. This was slightly different from our usual ritual as it was based on Ritual from the Scottish Constitution.
All in all, it was a very successful night and the dining that followed at the festive board did not disappoint. Good humour and cheer was enjoyed by all. We raised a generous amount for alms and also from a raffle collection. It was great to meet and enjoy the company of our brother masons and even more special as this was an unusual extra meeting.
