A Historic Evening: Double Raising Ceremony & More at Our November Meeting
On 11 November 2024, the Lodge of Honour No. 379 hosted a memorable meeting marked by a double raising ceremony. On this occasion, two of our brothers were raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason in a beautifully executed ceremony, making this the third time this year that our officers have carried out a double ceremony—but the first double raising in many years.
Immediately after the Lodge was opened, the Worshipful Master invited all members and guests to observe a moment of silence in solemn remembrance of our fallen brethren.
Double Raising Ceremony
With the invaluable guidance of Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies prior to the meeting, our officers ensured the ritual was performed with precision and dignity. Both the Senior and Junior Deacons led the candidates around the lodge floor with confidence, while every officer—including a couple of visiting brethren—fulfilled their roles admirably, with some doubling up where required.
It is particularly noteworthy that these two candidates have progressed together since the beginning of their Masonic journey, having been initiated and passed in double ceremonies earlier this year. Now raised together, their shared path through the Craft is sure to strengthen their bond of friendship and brotherhood as they begin their work as Master Masons.
Business of the Evening
During the meeting, the Almoner raised the topic of Christmas gifts for the widows of our departed brethren. It was unanimously agreed that the Lodge would provide gift cards to the widows at the upcoming Christmas luncheon in December. Members are encouraged to attend this special event and lend their support in making it a memorable occasion for those in our extended Masonic family.
In addition, we had the privilege of presenting a Grand Lodge Certificate to one of our members who had been raised to the Third Degree at our previous meeting.
We were also delighted to receive news from the Provincial Grand Secretary that our Bicentenary Warrant, commemorating 200 years of continuous existence, has arrived from Grand Lodge. This prestigious warrant will remain in his safe keeping until it is formally presented to the Lodge during our Bicentenary celebrations next year.
The Lodge meeting concluded at 8:30 p.m., after which we adjourned to the Festive Board.
The Festive Board
The Festive Board was as lively and enjoyable as ever, with excellent food and even better fellowship. The menu for the evening included:
- Beetroot & feta cheese tart with caramelised onion crème fraîche and a salad garnish
- Steak and mushroom pie
- Berry crumble served with custard and/or vanilla ice cream
Priory Lodge and the Lodge of Honour
The toasts were a highlight of the evening. The Acting Junior Warden delivered a heartfelt toast to our guests, and the reply came from our most frequent guest, the Worshipful Master of Priory Lodge in Keynsham.
This longstanding connection, facilitated by our Senior Deacon—who is also a member of Priory Lodge—has fostered a warm relationship between the two lodges. The banter, jokes, and camaraderie shared over dinner truly encapsulated the spirit of the evening.
Closing Moments
After the meal, everyone pitched in to help clear the plates, glasses, cups and saucers, firing glasses, coasters, and other items. Thanks to this collective effort, the cleanup was quick and efficient—a fitting conclusion to a successful evening.
The Lodge of Honour continues to flourish through the dedication of its members, the strength of our fellowship, and the shared experiences that bring us closer together. Here’s to many more memorable evenings!
